Please note – Call for Papers Deadline is March 20th
I. We invite short paper presentations (20 mins max) and also poster presentations relating to the conference theme, i.e. the Council’s impact and promise, which can be from or in relation to ecumenical, interfaith and/or secular perspectives, or indeed Roman Catholic reflections upon and responses to the same. In your proposal please indicate which general theme (if any) your paper is best suited to (or identify its focus in line with the instructions in section II, below).
- Day 1: Thursday May 21st: Vatican II – Revisiting the Vision
- Day 2: Friday May 22nd – Opening to the World
- Day 3: Saturday May 23rd – Church and Churches
- Day 4: Sunday May 24th – On Religion & Opening to Other Faiths
II. Please also note that:
- We especially welcome poster presentations or traditional papers on the impact of Vatican II upon particular contexts, countries, regions and continents and vice-versa – the distinctive contribution of certain contexts, countries, regions and continents upon the Council itself.
- We also especially welcome poster presentations and papers addressing the formation, impact, legacy and promise of any of the major council documents.
- We also welcome papers addressing debates about the Council itself in general, including its overall history, impact, legacy and continued promise for the church and world of the future.
- Papers are also invited exploring the historical, contemporary and future prospects for ecumenical dialogue, interfaith dialogue and dialogue between religious faiths and the wider cultural and social world, especially in the light of the council.
- We also welcome joint proposals for thematic sessions of up to three papers (+ session chair).
- We also welcome proposals for discursive roundtable sessions on particular topics/themes/debates (4-5 panelists max. + chair)
- Finally, we welcome proposals for interactive and/or workshop sessions on particular documents, themes and debates
- Further Guidance on Poster sessions
- These sessions will effectively be optional plenary sessions so of great importance and with the potential to reach a larger audience than for a traditional paper-based concurrent session.
- Note that the for the poster session we ask that you produce a visual presentation of some form (text, images or both) that captures and represents the core aspects of the research and perspective you wish to present. You will stand next to your presentation and will be fielding questions from participants about the research and presentation in a more informal but interactive fashion.
- Because of the intensity of the overall program, we anticipate at least half of the concurrent contributions will eventually be allotted to the poster presentation session
- Depending on the theme of submissions, the organizing committee may suggest that some traditional paper submissions might work best presented in poster format in order to complement other contributions and accommodate as many presenters as we can.
Please submit a title and abstract (no more 200 words in total) via this ONLINE FORM only please.
On the form you will also be asked to submit your name, institution, institutional contact details and a short biography (200 words max.) which should also indicate your own background in relation to the event’s theme. (If proposing a multi-participant session, please list all participants and their institution).
The number of papers we can accept will be determined by capacity in the concurrent session program and space at our venues. We recommend submissions as soon as possible as the conference program can only accommodate a finite number of papers and we already have a large number of papers accepted.
All submissions will receive a reply – if you have not received a reply within two weeks of submission do get in touch.
Acceptance of papers will be conditional upon prior registration for the event. (Please note that we cannot provide assistance with visa applications other than to confirm the participation of fully-registered participants only).
We very much hope it will be possible for you to be part of our gathering and to see you in May 2015!
